A new build infill scheme consisting of four-storey mixed-use of retail units located on the ground floor and 100 student self-contained studios with en-suites arranged on floors above. The top floor set back to minimise the building impact on residential properties found within the leafy streets of Selly Oak located to north of the site. The scheme at one point was to undertake the whole block fronting Bristol Road and between Elliott Road and Oak Tree Lane. This project concept developed alongside another project concept down the road at number 504. Through rigorous research we learnt the rich past history of Selly Oak. In this building, our approach is contextual and evident. The indent windows detail is in fact an inverted half bay window arranged along the front and rear elevations providing interesting façade design and especially when arranged in a formalised horizontal and vertical alignments. The results are fabulous and this and 504 Bristol Road have become our flagship schemes within the West Midlands.
